ROG Strix G15 And G17 Advantage Edition Revealed With AMD CPU-GPU Combo

At Computex 2021, Asus ROG revealed a new version of the Strix G15 and G17 gaming laptop line.

The ROG Strix G15 and G17 Advantage Edition are all-AMD powered, using a Ryzen 9 5900HX CPU and the newly-revealed Radeon RX 6800M GPU.

These are top-of-the-line specs available from team red right now, with the GPU powered by RDNA 2 architecture. So it can at the very least match the graphics seen in next-gen consoles, the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, that also uses the same architecture.

You can also tell the Advantage Edition from its looks. These Strix G15 and G17s have a bright right accent colour with an AMD logo on the back of the screen. Other than that, it follows the same design as the 2021 Strix G laptops.

The ROG Strix G Advantage Edition also has ROG Intelligent Cooling, the umbrella term for all its cooling tricks which includes liquid metal thermal compound and a full-coverage vapour chamber. In addition, the display supports AMD FreeSync Premium.

Here’s a rundown of the specs that the ROG Strix G15 and G17 Advantage Edition can have:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX
  • GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6800M
  • RAM: up to 32GB
  • Storage: up to 1TB SSD
  • Display: 15.6″ 1080p IPS, 300Hz, 100%sRGB/ 15.6″ 1440p IPS, 165Hz, 100%s DCI-P3 // 17.3″ 1080p IPS, 300Hz, 100%sRGB/ 17.3″ 1440p IPS, 165Hz, 100%s DCI-P3 (all with AMD FreeSync Premium)

Unfortunately there are no plans to bring the ROG Strix G15 and G17 Advantage Edition to Malaysia for now. But you can tell the statement of intent that ROG would totally bring more of their gaming laptop offerings in AMD flavours.

This year’s revealed 2021 range have a lot of AMD Ryzen CPU but Nvidia RTX GPUs, specs-wise. Now that the Radeon 6000M Series revealed, maybe we can see more GPU variety in future gaming laptops.
