Rimworld now has a new expansion, released alongside a free update. The new expansion, Anomaly, focuses on bringing survival horror elements to the much-lauded colony builder, or as the game fashions itself (rightfully so), story generator.
In Rimworld: Anomaly, your colonists can provoke the horrors beyond comprehension. Developer Ludeon Studio cites Cabin In The Woods, The Thing, The Cthulu mythos and Hellraiser among its inspirations, so expect a survival horror vibe.
In the words of Ludeon Studio founder Tynan Sylvester on why they made the Anomaly expansion: “I saw Cabin in the Woods and I thought the monster lab was awesome.”
The opening of the new Rimworld Anomaly trailer certainly evoke all this. And for video game comparison, there’s a bit of Dead Space in there as well.
This is the fourth expansion for Rimworld. Previously, the game added monarchy systems in Royalty, cults and religions in Ideology, and genetic mods and family raising in Biotech.
The new free update, Version 1.5, is also pretty expansive too, with some new features including a 2×1 door and a 2×1 loveseat sofa available for crafting.
Rimworld Anomaly and the Version 1.5 update is now live. Rimworld is out now on PC (Steam, GOG).
