Rockstar Games will finally bring 2010’s open world action-adventure game Red Dead Redemption on current-gen consoles.
Red Dead Redemption and its expansion Undead Nightmare were previously ported to PS4 and Xbox One last year and was also made available on Nintendo Switch via cloud streaming.
Later this December, the game will finally be on all modern platforms.
Thankfully, if you already have Red Dead Redemption and Undead Nightmare on PS4, Xbox One and, yes the Nintendo Switch cloud streaming version, it’s a free upgrade to the PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2 version. Save files will carry over if you have one from a previous-gen console of the same type (i.e. PS4 saves carry over to PS5, etc.).
Plus, Red Dead Redemption will be coming to PS Plus Game Catalog on release day, as well as GTA+ Games Library, for those who buy Rockstar’s own subscription.
Not only that, Red Dead Redemption will also launch on iOS and Android. If you have a Netflix subscription, this is included in that so you can download it with no extra cost.
Red Dead Redemption on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S supports 60 FPS, HDR and up to 4K resolution (the latter only for PS5 and Xbox Series X).
Meanwhile the Nintendo Switch 2 version will deploy Nvidia DLSS upscaling to reach that 60 FPS target and also supports HDR as well as mouse controls.
The new Red Dead Redemption ports on consoles are developed by Double Eleven and Cast Iron Games.
Red Dead Redemption follows the story of one John Marston, looking to bury his past before the past catches up to him. It’s a somber tale during the twilight of the wild west, and one of the biggest games during the 7th-generation console cycle.
Funnily enough, its sequel (and story prequel) Red Dead Redemption 2, released in 2018, has yet to have a current-gen console version. But that’ll be reserved for another rainy day, or if GTA VI gets delayed yet again.
Red Dead Redemption arrives on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, iOS and Android on December 2.
