A new teaser trailer by Ubisoft hints at the upcoming Outbreak event. The event will arrive alongside Operation Chimera, which will kick Year 3 of updates and events for the multiplayer tactical FPS.
The Outbreak event is the first limited-time co-op event for the game which will require a three-person team to “take on a mysterious threat”. The first teaser trailer hints that the threat came from outer space and has now landed in the town of Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. Yes that is indeed a real town name in the USA.
It’s essentially a variation of Horde Mode, as detailed on Ubisoft’s blog here. The creatures you face will tea down walls, explode on sight and are armoured, a very different beast to the normal AI terrorists in the base game’s Terrorist Hunt mode. Only a selection of the many operators can be deployed for the event. Smoke, Ying, Buck, Kapkan, Ash, Doc, Tachanka, Glaz and the Recruit plus two new operators from Operation Chimera will be playable.Three new co-op levels will appear exclusively during the Outbreak event.
The outbreak event will also have 50 new cosmetic items, available only during the event. The good news is that there will never be cosmetics, but you will need to pour in some real money, and was the source of fan backlash as a new version of the game would include packs of these limited-time cosmetics to justify a price hike. Instead, all players will get four of these Outbreak Packs, which is an okay deal.
The Outbreak event will commence on March 6th until April 3rd.
