Devil May Cry 5 Has Optional Multiplayer Called The Cameo System, Here’s How It Works

Devil May Cry 5, the hotly anticipated sequel to the long-running character action series, has just got a new trailer released. But aside from that, Capcom has given more info on a new system to the game that involves multiplayer, sort of.

As spotted here, there is a multiplayer component to Devil May Cry 5. Though game director Hideaki Itsuno has insisted that the game is designed as a single-player game first.

This multiplayer aspect is called the cameo system. During the story mode the three playable characters Nero, Dante and V will cross paths and split up on their mission.

When they teamed up in certain missions, the other character could be another player that’s making a cameo fighting with you together in real time. At the end of the mission, you can rate the performance of the other player, whether it’s Stylish or not, which will net you other rewards if gained.

This is entirely optional however. Should you choose to play offline the other character will be ghost data of the development team. Not all missions will have characters team up, too.

Think of it like how Journey handled it’s multiplayer. It’s optional, it can be fun. But this time you are also getting judged so bring your A-game.

A demo of Devil May Cry 5 (or.. Demo May Cry) is available on the Xbox One from now until January 6th 2019. Devil May Cry 5 will be primed for showtime on March 8th 2019 for the PS4, PC and Xbox One.
