PlayStation has announced that it is officially bringing in the PlayStation Portal to Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand.
The peripheral will launch in Singapore on September 4. It will then launch in Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand on October 9.
In Malaysia, the PlayStation Portal will retail at RM 999.
The PlayStation Portal allows users to stream games from the PS5. It has all the features of a PS5 DualSense controller plus a screen in the middle so you can play on your PS5 without having to be in the same physical room of the console. It’s essentially a Remote Play machine.
The use case here is rather limited. And obviously it isn’t compatible with PS VR2, PS VR games, games that require cloud streaming (moreso since cloud streaming games via PS Plus Premium isn’t available in Southeast Asia), and games that require additional peripherals.
This is a very niche product. But for those who do pine for more chances to game but just can’t find time, the device can also connect to non-home WiFi networks.
Plus, local availability means that it’ll be a lot cheaper than those imported sets are selling for right now.
