After showcasing the art of drifting, rallying and managing a top-tier formula racing team, developer Funselektor continues to share their love of vehicles with their next game, Over The Hill.
Previously teased, a new gameplay trailer dropped during the Triple-I Initiative, showcasing the developer’s now-trademark minimalist style as you drive through valleys and go over hills alongside friends. It’s an off-road driving game, or the practice of overlanding.
Over The Hill takes on more of a realistic approach to off-road driving, in that cars struggle to go over humps, and must be coerced to climb up steep angles. Some modern open world games just tread off-roading as a less grippy surface, but if you watch off-roading/overlanding content, or have done them yourselves, cars going over a river crossing is already some tense action, of seeing a hulk of metal inching forward every second. More Snowrunners than Forza Horizon, if you will.
In fact, you can chain up vehicles together to drive in tandem, or pull a stuck vehicle. And park up and set a campfire after a long day of adventure.
The game has a minimal mini-map as its only HUD, and that implies it is an open world (the press release says it’s “an interconnected world full of satisfying challenges and breathtaking vistas”).
Dynamic weather and day/night cycle are also confirmed.

You can turn Over The Hill into a racing game, as there are challenge trails for you to beat the time, or race against up to three friends (multiplayer is confirmed). Or you can simply take the sights and enjoy a road trip, solo or as part of a convoy.
Similar to Art Of Rally, and slightly like Golden Lap, Over The Hill leans on the nostalgic lense of “the golden years”. Expect to see off-road vehicles that look straight out of the 1960s-1980s (sans official license).
Like any good racing and/or driving game, Over The Hill features a photo mode and customisable vehicles.
Over The Hill is set to release later this year on PC (Steam)
