Open wheel races are now live in GTA Online. As teased before, this is a new competitive racing mode featuring open-wheelers. Or more accurately, legally distinct F1 cars from the ’80s and ’70s.
You get to buy two new open-wheelers. The Progen PR4 is essentially a knock-off McLaren MP4 (look at the default colours), the grippier and more modern of the two. The other is the Ocelot R88, that looks like an off-brand Lotus 89T with that black and gold default colour.
These cars can be upgraded further at Los Santos Customs. Better engines, tyres, brakes and wings are available, as well as other custom liveries.
Open wheel races take place in seven new circuits- part of the Sand Andreas Prix. Some are closed-off pure circuits while others have you zip around the streets of Los Santos as street circuits.
Open wheel races not only have pit-stops you need to do, but these races include the use of Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS). A real-life technology in F1 of the late ’00s, this is essentially a rechargeable speed boost in GTA Online.
This is all nifty stuff if you like Formula 1 in general. They even get the nyoom noises of past F1 cars just nice. Open wheel races are now live in GTA Online as a free update.
