GTA Online Will Be Adding Open Wheel Racing, Complete With Pit Stop And Tyre Changes

Wait, what? GTA Online has always have a lot of racing game elements in their content drop, like the Cunning Stunts update that let you freely build ridiculous Hot Wheels (or Trackmania) inspired tracks on top of the open world. But Rockstar Games are teasing something for more serious sim racers.

In a small blurb in the post announcing GTA Online and Red Dead Online’s record-breaking player numbers, Rockstar teases that a new update will be “an open wheel racing series featuring all-new vehicle types – with tense, high speed, track-based racing where tight cornering, tactical tyre choices and perfectly timed pit stops make every second count.”

That sounds a lot like a legally-distinct Formula 1-style racing discipline. There are no open wheelers in GTA Online so far, so this would be something new to the always-updating sandbox online game.

This is not big news for the GTA Online community, as leaks and datamining have uncovered the cars already. The featured above is from the GTA Fandom Wiki which has documented two different F1-style open wheelers. Still, it’s good to have confirmation that it is coming.

This is only one new feature that’s coming to GTA Online in 2020. Rockstar teases that there are a few surprises and more big updates throughout the year.

Rockstar will be awarding $1,000,000 GTA$ for logging in between January 30th to February 5th. And another additional $1,000,000 GTA$ for logging in between February 6th and 12th.
