Once Upon A Katamari Announced, Rolling Out This October

It’s not just Limp Bizkit that has been rolling, rolling, rolling (what) out of the 2000s. Bandai Namco revealed a new Katamari game at the July 2025 Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase.

Once Upon A Katamari is the first new Katamari game that’s not a remaster (which it had two) or a mobile title (which they were plenty) since the 2009’s Katamari Forever. The first in 14 years.

The King Of All Cosmos has made an oopsie once again by accidentally destroying Earth and the stars. The little Prince and his cousins is back on the clock to roll out katamari to recreate the world.

As the title implies, Once Upon A Katamari will be a journey through the years, so expect to be rolling through the ages, from ancient Egypt to the Jurassic Era. But expect the usual chaos of having to roll various odds-and-ends big and small to form a specific size of katamari.

There’s of course new music, but just like with the times, even the tunes have kept up. There’s Katamari dubstep in the trailer. Just hope that they don’t drop the ball with this one, given how evergreen some of the previous titles’ music has been.

The reveal trailer has that Nintendo Direct narration due to its reveal on the July 2025 Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase.

Once Upon A Katamari also features 68 of the Prince’s cousins to play (and customise as) and 4-player multiplayer (local and online).

You don’t have to wait too long to get the ball rolling, Once Upon A Katamari will be out on October 23 for the PS5, PC (Steam), Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch. In Asia, the PC (Steam) release will be one day later, on October 24.
