At the Xbox and Bethesda Developer Direct January 2023 broadcast, Turn 10 Studio divulges a bit more details of its upcoming entry of the racing game Forza Motorsport, simply titled Forza Motorsport.
The developers confirmed that over 500 cars will be available at launch. A formidable number. Fellow console racing sim Gran Turismo 7 has 454 cars currently with all the post-launch updates, for comparison.
Some of the new cars include LMP1 and DPi prototype cars of recent years (no sight of any new LMH/LMDh yet though). There are also over 800 unique car customisation options.

As for tracks, there are 20 locations. Racing sims are now using locations instead of track count to factor in multiple course layouts available in each location. 20 is not that much, so don’t expect all the tracks from Forza Motorsport 7 to make the cut at launch. Suzuka and Kyalami are confirmed to feature as part of the 20 locations. Kyalami is one of five locations that are completely new to the Forza Motorsport series.
The following locations were featured in the presentation:
- Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps
- Hakone
- Kyalami
- Laguna Seca
- Maple Valley
- Silverstone Circuit
- Suzuka Circuit
The presentation also confirms Forza Motorsport supports fully dynamic time and weather.
The rest of the presentation gives a peek at how the developers have worked on the game to ensure the paint looks real, the sound is better (featuring some samples of superchargers at work) and how dirt accumulated at the right crevasses of a car.
The spectators are all 3D animated too. A somewhat odd mention, but if you look at the reception of Forza Motorsport 5 back then where people poked fun at the 2D sprites of the spectators, that probably is worth mentioning here.
Forza Motorsport still doesn’t have a firm release date yet, but it’s coming out in 2023 for the Xbox Series X|S and PC.
