Nacon Acquires Edge Of Eternity Devs Midgar Studio

Nacon announced the acquisition of French-based JRPG developers Midgar Studio. This is the team responsible for creating French parkour action game Hover (alongside Flusty Games) and JRPG Edge Of Eternity, released in full in June 2021 after a period of Steam Early Access.

“We are very happy to be joining Nacon, who listen and understand what we are trying to achieve. With their support, we have the chance to fulfil our ambitions while retaining a lot of freedom,” said Midgar Studio founder Jeremy Zeler-Maury.

Midgar Studio makes high-quality games in a segment that we have not yet specialised in. By combining the studio’s expertise with our own on the publishing side, we will soon be able to offer our players new, high-quality, French-made gaming experiences,” said Alain Falc, President and CEO of Nacon.

No mention of a new project by Midgar under this new management yet, but you can expect Nacon to start producing JRPGs, a very specific style of role-playing games mostly associated with Japanese developers (though these days many non-Japanese studios, including Midgar, has since adapted this genre in their games).

Nacon’s Video Games division now has 15 development studios, 10 of which are in France, 2 studios based in Canada and one in Belgium, Italy, and Australia respectively.
