Hitman World Of Assassination has now surpassed 75 million players, developer IO Interactive announced.
This makes the latest entry to the Hitman series, an amalgamation of Hitman (2016), Hitman 2 and Hitman 3 into one unified game, the most successful entry yet.
The use of “players” instead of “copies sold” is due to how the game has been distributed. Hitman World Of Assassination was made available on Game Pass, and there are various free versions of the game during the Hitman (2016), Hitman 2, Hitman 3 and now Hitman World Of Assassination incarnations. So players who dipped in for the free celebrity Elusive Targets are included in the total player count, which is surprisingly massive.
Hitman World Of Assassination doesn’t just combine the campaigns, maps and progression of the trilogy of Hitman games into one, it also added new mode Freelancer, a roguelike mode.
On top of that, this single-player game (with an unfortunate requirement for online connection) continues to support live service elements with Elusive Targets (limited-time hits).
IO Interactive is offering the free version of Hitman World Of Assassination access to the latest celebrity Elusive Target: The Splitter. The target here is fictional movie star Max Valliant, portrayed by real movie star (with the amazing prowess of doing splits) Jean-Claude Van Damme. Once attempted, you only get one shot to take the target out, and only 40% of players were successful so far. The pros can speedrun the hit in under 21 seconds, while the longest attempt IOI has data on lasted a whole seven hours.
The Splitter Elusive Target in Hitman World Of Assassination ends on January 12, so if you want to try it out, time’s ticking.
Hitman World Of Assassination is out now on PS4, PS5, PC (Steam, Epic Games Store), Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
