Asus’ ROG line of gaming laptops will get a refresh in 2025, powered by the newly-revealed Nvidia GeForce RTX 50 Series GPUs.
And this includes a laptop version of the highest-end Blackwell architecture GPUs: the RTX 5090. In a laptop.
For the top-of-the-line Strix Scar laptops running Intel CPUs, ROG employs a new cooling design: sandwiching the vapour chamber between heatsink fins. ROG says this new design use less space while improving cooling efficiency, on top of the full-length rear exhaust vent, liquid metal as thermal paste for the CPU and GPU as well as the many intake vents from the side, bottom and even from the keyboard area.
The Strix G16 and G18, the mid-range options, are instead using 7 heat pipes with “full-surround vents”, a full-width heatsink and three fans as its cooling solution.

The 2025 ROG Strix Scar and Strix G gaming laptops feature a new chassis design. And The ROG Strix Scar in particular has one returning and much-welcomed feature: an easy-to-remove bottom panel. So easy it’s literally a button press away to remove the entire bottom panel and get access to fans (to clean any trapped dust as well as the RAM and storage compartments, the few modular components that a user can upgrade and change. No screws or ribbon cables required.
The motherboard itself isn’t exposed, so proper repairs will still require tools. But simple servicing and upgrades won’t, which is nice. Gaming laptops in the early 2010s did have easy accessibility to change upgrade RAM, but that all went away as laptop chassis design started becoming simpler and less bulky.
The ROG Strix line comes in two sizes, the now-standard 16″ screen size or the bigger 18″ screens. AMD Ryzen CPUs are offered on the Strix G line.
The ROG Strix also comes with that RGB underglow. The RGB light strip fully surrounds the underside of the chassis.
