Developers Gameloft have been making strides in the mobile space when it comes to delivering some pretty good graphics, and their latest game, Asphalt 9: Legends, sure proves so.

Asphalt has been a solid arcade racing experience on mobile, started back during the Nokia N-Gage days. Developers Gameloft have been making strides in the mobile space when it comes to delivering some pretty good graphics. Their latest game, Asphalt 9: Legends, sure proves so.

Digital Foundry breaks it down on how Asphalt 9 managed to squeeze all of these impressive graphics to run well on a mobile chipset. Gameloft’s proprietary, mobile-first Jet Engine has great scalability, unique implementation for effects such as HDR.

Some of the cars contain more than 90,000 triangles, which is at par with car models in current-gen console games.

While the game is definitely a looker, both iOS and Android version have issues with frame pacing, which means there are slight hitches that cause it not being as smooth as it could. This is a common issue in mobile games as Digital Foundry noted in the video below:

That issue aside, it’s impressive to see the fidelity of mobile games are on par to what we see on consoles.
