Mini Motorways Adds A New Map Down Under

Mini Motorways developer Dinosaur Polo Club has prepared a present for the holidays with a free update.

The Down Under Update adds one new map for the traffic management sim/puzzler based on a city in Australia. But it’s quite the interesting pick. It’s not Melbourne or Adelaide or Perth, cities of Australia often depicted in pop culture.

Rather, they went with Cairns. A city way up northeast in Queensland.

This coastal map is all summery bright with its gold and yellow accents on the mountain terrains contrasting the teal Coral Sea. And there’s definitely opportunities to make sea-crossing motorways that can skip past all the traffic gridlock in the rather cramped map.

And it’s nice reminder that not every part of the world is covered in snow at this time of the year. The Cairns map is full of summer vibes, as that’s how the weather is there right now.

Additionally, there’s a new cinematic mode that lets you bask in the beautiful spaghetti mess of a road network you conjured.

Cairns is not the only city located down under. Wellington, New Zealand, the dev’s on hometown, is already in the game.

This is the second free update for Mini Motorways this year. It’s not much, but the fact that the indie game with five million players still gets the occasional update five years since its original launch is incredible to see.

Mini Motorways is out now on PC (Steam), Mac (Steam), Nintendo Switch and Apple Arcade.
