Marvel VS Capcom 2 Returns To EVO Main Stage As A Special 8-Man Invitational

MAHVEL BAYBEE

EVO 2020, the annual premier fighting games tournament, has revealed its lineup of games that will be played on the main stage. EVO is an open fighting game tournament where anyone can enter and face a long double-elimination tournament.

While there are many other fighting games tournament being held on the side, the main stage games are the focus of the tournament, especially the games that get the top 8 matches played on Sunday.

The nine main games list gets a bit of a shake-up. Though ever-popular stalwarts like Street Fighter V and Tekken 7 remains. Smash is solely represented by Super Smash Bros. Ultimate again like 2019. Soul Calibur VI is sticking around, and so is the other weapon fighting game, Samurai Shodown.

Arc System Works games continue to have a large presence, with Dragon Ball FighterZ remaining and upcoming fighter Granblue Fantasy Versus tagging out Blazblue Crosstag Battle. We still have an anime fighter though, Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[cl-r] (or UNICLR) now takes the spot from UNIST.

However, there is one big curveball. Mortal Kombat 11 is making way for  Marvel VS Capcom 2. That’s right, the ghost of Mahvel has risen from the dead to celebrate the game’s 20th anniversary.

This is however not an open tournament, rather an 8-man invitational, with a prize pool of $10,000 USD all funded by EVO. The previous four EVO champions for Marvel 2 (Justin Wong, Ducvader, IFC Yipes and Sanford Kelly) will all be invited, plus four other wildcards.

The full lineup of main stage games for EVO 2020 is as follows:

  • Street Fighter V
  • Tekken 7
  • Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
  • Dragon Ball FighterZ
  • Soul Calibur VI
  • Samurai Shodown
  • Granblue Fantasy Versus
  • Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[cl-r]
  • Marvel VS Capcom 2 (2ournament Of Champions invitational)

EVO 2020 will be held at Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas, USA from July 31st to August 2nd.
