Logitech Scoops Up Headset Brand Astro For $85 Million USD

Hardware manufacturers Logitech has announced it will acquire Astro, the company with a strong line of gaming headsets (not to be confused with Malaysia’s broadcasting network of a similar name) for a cool $85 million USD.

This acquisition will further expand the scope of Logitech’s hardware offerings. The manufacturer are known for their great assortment gaming mice, keyboards (with their own proprietary mechanical switches) and other peripherals such as racing steering wheels.

Ujesh Desai, Vice President of the Logitech G brand said that having Astro on board will be a “perfect compliment to Logitech G’s focus on PC gaming.”

Astro’s headsets are mostly marketed for use on consoles, though some models do work on PC as well. The headsets also cost a premium- the Astro A50 headset costs over RM1,000. Though they have also started to offer more budget-friendly models such as the A10.

Though Logitech is already making gaming headsets, the big point of the acquisition is for the company to expand into the console space. The Astro brand will in turn be expanded internationally, making use of Logitech’s worldwide presence and distribution network.

Logitech continues to acquire various hardware manufactures into their fold. Last year, they acquired Saitek, a manufacturer specialising in the creation of pro flight sticks for aeroplane simulators.
