Little Nightmares, the little 2D platforming horror series, is getting a new entry next year.
Little Nightmares III was announced at Gamescom 2023 Opening Night Live. With a new developer, Supermassive Games. This is the creator of cinematic narrative-driven horror games the Dark Pictures Anthology (which Bandai Namco also published), among others.
Original devs Tarsier Studios have moved on from the series after being acquired by Embracer Group.
The Little Nightmare series has sold over 12 million copies, so it makes sense for Bandai Namco Europe wanting to continue it by tapping another dev with horror experience.
Little Nightmares III will feature two playable characters, Low and Alone. The game supports 2-player multiplayer, local and online. But it’s optional. Playing the game solo will see the second character controlled by the AI.
Low and Alone must find a way to get out of Nowhere, where danger lurks. The duo must puzzle solve their way to escape this little nightmare, which still features the cute, cuddly yet disturbing ambience the series is known for.
For the lorehounds out there, there are more Little Nightmares content beyond the game. A new podcast series called The Sounds of Nightmares has also been announced, with the first two episodes out now. This is totally a Supermassive Games thing, they did a podcast for their previous game The Quarry as well.
Little Nightmares III is targeting a 2024 release for the PS4, PS5, PC (Steam), Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch.
