The new gameplay trailer for Like A Dragon Infinite Wealth, revealed at the Xbox Partner Preview stream, is for a new mini-game called Dondoko Island. And it’s more or less an Animal Crossing-like life sim.
At the start of Chapter 6, Ichiban Kasuga can hop on a dolphin to catch a ride to a remote island far away called Dondoko Island.
Described as a “vacation within a vacation where cozy DIY lifestyle awaits”, Dondoko Island has you collect materials like rocks and bugs, and the craft or buy furniture, homes and buildings. The island can be decorated with furniture and decorations (from bikes to giant statues) with a grid placement system.
You can also befriend the tourists who took the trip to the island by talking and giving gifts, or accommodating to their requests to make their vacation even better.
There is a combat component in all of this, however. So it’s not just a direct Animal Crossing rip-off. And it’s the rare time where you get to control Kasuga in real-time combat (the main game, like Yakuza: Like A Dragon, has a turn-based combat system).
This looks like Infinite Wealth’s tentpole mini-game, how Yakuza: Like A Dragon has Ichiban Confectionery where it becomes a business sim. Dondoko Island is more elaborate and hands-on, however, so if the features shown here work as intended, it’s going to be a nice timesink, or a break from the serious story in the main plot Infinite Wealth has in store.
Like A Dragon Infinite Wealth will be releasing on January 26, 2024 for PS4, PS5, PC (Steam, Microsoft Store), Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
