Level Up KL, The Premier Games Conference in Southeast Asia, Returns Stronger Than Ever
Level Up KL is the premier games conference in Southeast Asia, and the 2017 edition is stronger than ever. Over 40 key players in the gaming industry were sharing experience through talks. Developers from Naughty Dog, EA Motive, Riot, EA Ghost, and also local developers Streamline Studios were among the many speakers throughout the six-day event.
CEO of Streamline Studios, Alexander Fernandez, gave a talk on on ‘Co-Dev: The Future of Collaboration in SEA.’ The team is highly passionate with the idea of co-development, as we last explored in our interview here.
“Co-Development is the way contemporary games are made” said Fernandez. “It takes great teams. In SEA we see the opportunity to mentor and create these teams. And that’s why we’re here.”
This was also the event where famed local developer Wan Hazmer announced his departure from Square Enix, and has plans to open up a new studio here in Malaysia.
Gaming workshops, game jams and networking sessions were available to attendees, geared for game developers.
The event, initiated by government agency MDEC, has continued to grow. It’s a sure sign that game development is getting bigger here in Southeast Asia.
