Lego just revealed an upcoming new set for this year’s Lego Technic line that will turn some heads: a buildable model recreation of a 2022 Formula 1 car.
Lego and McLaren Racing worked in collaboration in designing this set, the first Formula 1 car in Lego Technic form.
“The partnership between the Lego Group and McLaren continuously develops each time we get together for the next collaboration,” said Niels Henrik Horsted, Head of Product, Lego Technic.
“We never stop trying to excite and inspire our fans by pushing the limits of possibility through the technology and designs produced, both on the racetrack and with Lego building.”
The Lego Technic McLaren Formula 1 Race Car set has the livery of its 2021 race season, but the car itself is actually designed to replicate the new 2022 Formula 1 cars, which has a radical new look thanks to a major regulation change. The new 2022 F1 cars have bigger wings, high and pointy vertical tips on the front wing, flaps that partly cover the top of the front wheels and wheel covers, to name a few of the visual changes.
McLaren has yet to launch its upcoming 2022 challenger, so this serves as a glimpse of what to expect for the new car to be properly revealed February 11.
“We are excited to unveil the unique LEGO Technic model of our McLaren F1 car, a fun and engaging product that celebrates our 2021 season livery while giving fans a hands-on interpretation of the new 2022 F1 car design,” said James Key, Executive Director, Technical, McLaren Racing.
“This has been made possible by an agile collaboration with the LEGO Group team, who have truly embraced the spirit of our brave and bold approach to design. The final product looks fantastic, and we cannot wait to make this available to our fans.”
The set also includes working steering, activated from the cockpit and moving pistons for the V6 engine. Also, the ridiculously complex suspension geometry, a differential lock, are modelled as well.
The Lego Technic McLaren Formula 1 Race Car has 1,432 pieces, and once put together stands at 65cmx27cmx13cm (long, width, height). There are stickers for the sponsor stickers.
The Lego Technic McLaren Formula 1 Race Car will be on sale in Malaysia on March 1, for the price of RM799. You can find one at Lego certified stores, the official Lego Store on Lazada and Shopee, Legoland and major retailers and stores across the country.
