Are you ready to rock? The latest Lego set based on licensed products is the Lego Ideas Fender Stratocaster, coming to Malaysia next month.
The set was first created by fan designer Tomáš Letenay as part of the Lego Ideas Music To Our Ears competition. The entry didn’t win the competition (which involves fan voting). But as part of a new rule introduced for that Lego Ideas competition, one idea can be turned into an official product if the Lego Group’s reviews board loved it.
And Letenay’s entry did just that. Lego Group has commissioned him to make this set official. They even got the Fender license for it too.
“I used to play electric guitar when I was a teenager and I always dreamed of owning a Fender Stratocaster – but I could never afford it,” said Letenay.
“The competition on Lego Ideas gave me the chance to create it in Lego bricks. The Stratocaster was my gateway into music and I love seeing my Lego design with the stand. I am hoping that other guitar fans get as much joy out of building it as I have.”
The Lego Ideas Fender Stratocaster set includes a Lego version of the 1970s Fender Stratocaster, buildable either in red or black colours. The guitar itself features six strings, poseable tuning pegs and a tremolo arm, otherwise known as the whammy bar, the thing that distorts the guitar sound. It also includes a guitar strap.
Not only that, the set includes a folding display stand to place the Stratocaster, a foot pedal and an amplifier. You cover the amp’s back and top covers, or display it to see all the small wiring details that you have to put together during the building process.
The Lego model of the Fender Stratocaster is 36cm tall and 11cm wide. Definitely smaller than the real deal, but as a Lego set, should be quite the presence. That’s taller than a 17-inch laptop, for a size reference.
The set has 1,074 pieces, and it’s designed for adult fans of Lego, something Lego is pushing for recently with new “18+ age” sets and the “Adults Welcome” tagline.
The Lego Ideas Fender Stratocaster set (21329) will be available in Malaysia on October 1 for the price of RM499.
