The latest software update for the PS5 has begun rolling out worldwide and it brings quite the number of features. Previously only available for beta testers in select regions, the system version update adds Discord integration, Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) support for 1440p resolution, and other UI/UX improvements to the console.
The big addition is Discord. You can now join a Discord Voice Chat on the console, but not natively. Similar to the Xbox integration, you’ll need the Discord app (either on PC, Mac or mobile), link your PSN account, and then join the Voice chat from the app. From there, you get the option to transfer the voice call to the console.
No more needing two earbuds to talk with friends on Discord while still having an ear on the game audio.
Another big addition is VRR support for 1440p screens. As long as you are using a compatible HDMI 2.1 display, and the game has the option for VRR, you can now have it on for smoother visual performance.
