Last weekend saw the premier tournament for FIFA Online 3 being held at Guangzhou, China. The EA Champions Cup Summer 2017 saw 12 teams, including one team made up of the best Singapore and Malaysian players- SAM Elite- compete to walk home with the grand prize.
The boys at SAM Elites did a valiant effort on their debut at the big stage- merging out of the group stage in second place with 3 wins, 3 draws and 3 loses. Their campaign in the EACC ended at the quarter finals after losing to Korea’s adidas NEMEZIZ. The latter then met with another Korean team and eventual champions adidas X at the semis. The finals saw Thailand’s TNP fall to defeat against the Korean team.
SAM Elites reaching the quarter-finals is still a strong show for the team. “We are incredibly proud of SAM Elites and their efforts throughout the entire tournament,” said Syed Nazirul Nazrin, the Head of eSports for FIFA Online 3 Malaysia. “They made us proud by making it into the quarter finals but ultimately lost to adidas NEMEZIZ.
“It’s great that Malaysian and Singaporean FIFA Online 3 players are able to compete on the international stage and this itself shows great promise from our local esports scene.”
As for the team of RippedJeannn, SyncxJaron, zFeedMeMore and J0K3R, they are grateful for the opportunity to play on the biggest stage of FIFA Online 3. “We are very thankful for all the support from all of our fans and supporters. We have tried our best and we come back home without any regrets,” co-captain J0K3R said.
“We will definitely come back stronger next time.”
