You might have missed that SNK’s The King Of Fighters XV was at the Gamescom 2021 Opening Night Live broadcast. It was on the pre-show.
Nevertheless, SNK showed a good ton of new stuff following its weekly character reveals. Now we have a release date for KOF XV.
KOF XV will boast a relatively huge 39-character roster at launch. As revealed previously, the 3-on-3 fighting game has some newcomers as well as previous challengers making a re-appearance for the latest tournament.
Also, all the previous protagonists that were the main star from past mainline titles and story arcs will be in KOF XV. This means alongside K’, Ryo, and Shun’ei, Ash Crimson who last appeared in KOF XIII is back.
The new trailer also revealed the game’s UI, a new counter-attack feature Shatter Strike, and a new MAX Mode, MAX Mode (Quick) which has a rush function. You can do combos by literally mashing buttons.
You can expect 2-8 players online, ranked match mode, casual match mode, lobby-based room match mode, and online mode to be included in KOF XV. Additionally, there’s also a Draft VS mode where it plays on the 3v3 nature of this fighting game, where you get in turns to pick your characters, and possibly denying your opponent their picks as a result.
And yes, rollback is confirmed. After the many rollback netcode additions SNK did for its past titles, it would be weird not to see it in KOF XV. So good to know it’s here.
King Of Fighters XV will be out on February 17 for the PS4, PS5, PC (Steam, Epic Games Store) and Xbox Series X|S.
