The final game reveal at The Game Awards 2024 left many guessing. It’s a new IP set in a sci-fi world filled with mish-mashed technology and maybe-too-much product placements, from a Porsche 984 Tempest NDX spaceship to a Sony CD player. And it turns out to be Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, the next game by famed studio Naughty Dog.
According to the PlayStation Blog, Naughty Dog has been working on this new game since 2020.
Players play as Jordan A. Mun, a bounty hunter stranded on a distant planet called Sempiria. And now she has to be the first person since over 600 years to leave its orbit.
There’s plenty of real star-power that makes the cast, including Jordan who is portrayed by Tati Gabrielle.
The music will feature original soundtrack by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, and as heard in the trailer, licensed music is used as well.
Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet’s trailer started as what could’ve been Concord—PlayStation has two IPs about being space bounty hunters, apparently (though one might not see the light of day again). But the ending shows what could be another AAA action-adventure romp.
Naughty Dog has been making either the over-the-top globe-trotting action-adventure game where you kill way too many people in one set piece (the Uncharted series) or the very dramatic and poignant post-apocalypse action-adventure game with survival elements (The Last Of Us series). So it’s nice to see them make a new IP. Whether it has substance beyond the sci-fi theme and product placements remains to be seen.
There’s no release date for Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, but it’s in development for the PS5.
