It’s time to hit the ice, and prove that even sports games can integrate roguelite elements, in Tape To Tape.
Developed by Excellent Rectangle and published by new indie publisher Null Games (this is their first published title), Tape To Tape has you build a team of hockey players and take on various teams to reach and win the coveted cup.
The team starts out as a mediocre one, but as you continue to forge your path towards the championship (expressed in a branching path system more akin to Slay The Spire than any points system you’d expect from a sports game), you’ll get to hire future superstars that can synergise with the team as you build your all-star lineup.
But don’t expect to win in first try, it will be while until you get to the dream run for the championship. Between playthroughs, you can upgrade gear by visiting the Blademaster.
And this roguelite structure is all to service what looks like a competent arcade ice hockey game reminiscent of the games from the 90s. Sounds like a fun time if ice hockey’s your thing.
Tape To Tape is out now on PC via Steam Early Access.
