Here’s The First Look At Gameplay Of Dying Light 2, And It Looks Mighty Impressive

As teased yesterday, we got some new gameplay of Dying Light 2 and boy does it look impressive. This is the gameplay demo being shown behind closed doors at E3 2019, and is now available for everyone to see.

The open-world RPG really has become a full RPG, with branching questlines where decisions matter. The gameplay demo see our hero Aiden tasked on getting water to the city. The problem is that the Renegades, a faction led by The Colonel, refuses to open the water pumps located in their stronghold. After a deal gone sour, Aiden can either helps his injured friend, or go chase after the Renegades and see The Colonel directly. And when he confronts The Colonel, you could either take his offer of finding an alternate water source, or ignore him and stick to the original plan. You can also chase down The Colonel when he flees instead of turning on the pumps.

What’s impressive here is twofold. One is the lively-looking city. Just called The City which has seven different districts, it does feel populated in a way a zombie post-apocalypse could. The first scene you see is a club of sorts, where people can be spotted doing chores in on the rooftops. Zombies can be found lurking in more abandoned buildings and sewers.

The other is the new abilities at play. You have a grappling hook and a glider which are nice additions to the parkour mobility you have. The routes the gameplay demo showcased could just be really scripted, but if the whole city presents such opportunity of free movement, this could be one hell of a game.

Plus, the branching narrative sounds so promising. The demo ends with the water pumps turning on, revealing a new part of the city previously flooded, but a teaser shows that maybe a different breed of spikier zombies have been awakened too as a result.

The gameplay demo walktrough is very reminiscent of how Cyberpunk 2077 did before. Considering both developers are based in Poland, maybe they have a good thing going right now.

Dying Light 2 will be out in 2020 for the PS4, PC and Xbox One.
