Street Fighter 6’s second year sees not one, but two guest characters from publisher SNK joining the roster of Capcom’s finest fighting game yet.
After Terry Bogard, here comes Mai Shiranui. The “good girl” from the Fatal Fury series has featured in many other fighting games including The King Of Fighters, Dead Or Alive, and past Capcom VS SNK games.
Though she was famously snubbed from an appearance on Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, where game director Masahiro Sakurai, through translation, said that “Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is for good boys and girls of many different ages so we decided not to feature her, please forgive us.”
But this is the first time we get to see her 3D rendition in the world of Street Fighter, a world filled with over-exaggerated muscly folks of all kinds. And it’s safe to say she looks just as what most fans might have expected.
Like all the playable roster in SF6, Mai will feature in all three main game modes, including the story mode, World Tour. The cinematic here, if previous teasers for other characters have followed, is the introduction when you first meet her in World Tour. A new location in World Tour will be added, Aokigahara, where she resides, waiting for any fighters who wish to learn her Shiranui-style ninjutsu.
Mai is the third character in Street Fighter 6’s second year of DLC characters, after Terry and M. Bison. Elena from Street Fighter III is up next.
Mai will join the Street Fighter 6 roster as paid DLC sometime in early 2025. Street Fighter 6 is out now on PS4, PS5, PC (Steam), and Xbox Series X|S.
