For six straight weeks, developer Genki was revealing cars that will appear in the new Tokyo Xtreme Racer game. They took a break last week, and this week we see a glimpse of gameplay.
This short teaser of a trailer, only 25 seconds long, features previously revealed JDM classics ripping through the Tokyo Expressway while avoiding traffic. It’s the quintessential Tokyo Xtreme Racer experience.
Interesting to note that the license plates are just the Tokyo Xtreme Racer logo. Previous games in the series featured customisable Japanese license plates.
Tokyo Xtreme Racer is a racing game franchise by Genki. There are four numbered titles in the series for the 6th-gen consoles (PS2, Dreamcast) and multiple spin-offs that all came from this unique highway racing game where battles are presented like a fighting game with health bars rather than just a race to the finish line, with the goal of outrunning your opponent cleanly.
2025 will be an interesting year for fans of this niche series, as Tokyo Xtreme Racer will be released on PC (Steam). Coincidentally, an indie racing game called Nightrunners, heavily inspired by the Tokyo Xtreme Racer, will also be releasing in the same year.
