In the E3 press conference by EA, Need For Speed gets its first gameplay trailer shown. And it really looks a lot like a Fast and Furious movie, or another take of Need For Speed Undercover with its focus of story driven action driving with objectives. Or another more recent example would be Need For Speed: The Run, which did not do well and was the last game by Black Box Studios.
It looks decent, all the explosives and crashes look and sound good, but from a gameplay perspective, handling wise it’s reminscent of Burnout, Criterion’s Need For Speed Games and Need For Speed 2015’s drift handling with all the sliding and radical slo-mo each time you wreck a car. There’s constant switches between CGI and in-game footage, which suggests that some story missions will be really linear in nature.

Don’t expect a regular Need For Speed game for this one, so let’s hope the action sequences and set-pieces truly deliver now that it isn’t focused as much on the racing.
Need For Speed Payback is out on November 10 for the PS4, PC and Xbox One.
