Guilty Gear Strive Gets Season 3 Of DLC Characters, New Gameplay Systems

GGST fans, here’s Johnny! At Evo 2023, Arc System Works revealed that Guilty Gear Strive is getting a third season of DLC characters.

Suave cowboy-ish pirate Johnny will be hitting the deck with his sword, coin and, well, cards, as the first of four new characters in Season 3. Johnny will be available on August 24 for players who purchased the Season Pass 3, or ala carte as a single DLC.

Before Season 3, the GGST character roster is at 24, so Johnny’s the 25th character, and three more are to be added in the future. One more is expected to drop before the end of 2023.

But it’s not only that, Season 3 will see the game evolve further as ArcSys is introducing two new gameplay systems. Wild Assault is a tool to go on the offensive, a rush attack with powerful attacks. Whereas Deflect Sheild is a pushblock, giving you some breathing distance from the attacker upon successful input. The two systems aren’t free, as they use 50% of the Burst gauge, so there are more tactics at play by just adding these two systems that should freshen up the smell of the game.

The new systems will also be added on August 24.

Season 3 will also be adding two new stages, releasing later this year and another Colour Pack.

GGST now has 2.5 million players, numbers include physical and digital releases. Note the switch from “copies” or “units” to “players”, as the game is also currently available on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass.

Guilty Gear Strive is out now on PS4, PS5, PC (Steam, Microsoft Store), Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. The game is currently available on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass.
