And so, it happened. After reporting on a “classified file” a week ago, Blizzard chose to kick off their new timed Uprising event with a neat new comic, setting the stage for this first-of-its-kind Overwatch event.
As speculated, Uprising introduces a new PvE mode, where you play as 4 seasoned Overwatch veterans and their plucky new recruit as they journey through King’s Row to defeat Null Sector, a rogue group of Omnic terrorists. The update adds special Uprising lootboxes, which are needed to get the update’s 100+ new cosmetic items like sprays, emotes and highlight intros.
Things you might want to look out for in the update:
New D.Va Highlight Intro
Blackwatch skins for McCree and Genji
Widowmaker skin that basically makes her Sarah Kerrigan
Mercy with her hair down
and good ol’ Torbjörn reliving the good ol’ days with a loved one
Overwatch: Uprising runs from April 11th to May 1st (possibly offset by one day because of timezones) after which all these lore-rich goodies go back into Blizzard’s Vault of Nice Things until Jeff Kaplan decides otherwise. It’s just a ploy to get more active users and you know what, it’s working.
