It has been years since we heard any news of a potential new Armored Core from From Software. And understandably so, the makers now famous for pioneering soulslike action-RPGs are pretty busy.
But it looks like they really are making one, according to Resetera forum user Red Liquorice who recently did a consumer survey which pretty much revealed a new Armored Core game.
The details outlined from the survey that this Armored Core game is:
- a third-person shooter
- set in a sci-fie world, on the planet Bashtar “with an overwhelming sense of scale that only mecha can provide”
- massive maps, a variety of maps that are “worth taking on again and again”
- long-range and short range combat options
- “three dimensional movement” and can move freely around the vast map
- high degree of customisation with multiple ways to create builds
Sounds like an Armored Core game alright.
The thread has also since been updated with screenshots that were revealed as part of the survey (with the watermark identification obscured). And it definitely has the vibe of an Armored Core mecha and the desolate environments the games always had in common.
The survey also listed several choices for the title of the game, from Armored Core 6, Armored Core VI and simply Armored Core.
Before Demons’s Souls and Dark Souls, From Software was primarily known for making Armored Core alongside a myriad of many other different games from JRPGs to co-op platformers. The last mainline entry to Armored Core was Armored Core V back in 2012 (which then received a follow-up, Armored Core Verdict Day in 2013). So the series was dormant for a whole console generation- there were no new entries for the PS4/Xbox One era.
Still, this is the most concrete of details we have seen for a new Armored Core game. With Elden Ring coming out soon, this is likely to be their next big project, and we are now Overboosted in joyness should a proper reveal comes soon.
Until then, there’s Daemon X Machina, which was developed with several core members with Armored Core experience.
