Fortnite Is Getting Its Own Battle Royale Mode

Battle Royale sure is a thing. With PUBG’s immense popularity, reaching 10 million copies sold and peaked over 1 million concurrent players on Steam- the second highest number behind Dota 2- everyone wants a piece of the Battle Royale pie.

While most games and modes similar to PUBG didn’t associate themselves with the Battle Royale name- like GTA Online’s take on the formula– Epic’s new crafter-shooter Fortnite wears its influences on its sleeves.

Fortnites’s first PvP mode is straight-up being called Battle Royale. 100 players duke it out, last man standing wins. Once on the map, you can start looting and also start collecting resources to build buildings and traps.

It’s good news for PS4 players. While PUBG is coming to Xbox One first thanks to a deal with Microsoft, PS4 players can get a taste of this new popular game mode. Fortnite’s take isn’t an exact replica- the game is exclusively third-person and you can’t go prone, for example, but it should give you a similar thrill.

Fortnite’s Battle Royale mode will be out on September 26.

Fortnite is still in Early Access, despite currently having a physical release in certain markets. You can opt-in and buy the Early Access game right now available on the PS4, PC and Xbox One. However, it it will be out as a free-to-play title in 2018.
