Forspoken New Trailer Reveals It’s An Isekai Story

The 2021 PlayStation Showcase showed a new trailer for Square Enix’s Forspoken, the game formerly known as Project Athia. This game is developed by Luminous Productions, a new dev studio made up of past members that worked on Final Fantasy XV.

The new trailer shows more of protagonist Frey Holland, who’s actually just a street smart woman turning 21 from NYC. Somehow, she got transported magically into the world of Athia.

In other words, she got isekai’d.

With this context, you get to see Frey, a regular girl being thrown into a world of fantasy, slowly getting accustomed to the fantasy world and getting the hang of using her new magical powers to traverse it. She’s also accompanied by a sentient, magical bracelet that she wears, cheekily named Cuff.

Forspoken’s isekai story has quite the writing room talent. Revealed on the PlayStation Blog is the team of writers for Forspoken which includes Gary Whitta (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), Amy Hennig (Uncharted series), Allison Rymer, and Todd Stashwick.

In addition, the soundtrack is scored by Bear McCreary (God Of War 2018) and Garry Schyman (Bioshock).

Forspoken is coming to the PS5 sometime in Spring (Q2) 2022.
