Focus Home Interactive has announced it has acquired fellow French publisher and developer DotEmu.
The deal will see Focus Home paying 38.5 million Euros, with an additional payment of 15 million Euro plus a second round of payment based on performance indicators to happen over the next two years.
DotEmu CRO Cyrille Imbert remains as CEO and part shareholder of the company.
“This new collaboration will allow Dotemu to benefit from the incontestable expertise of Focus Home Interactive’s teams for the production of AA titles and therefore launch the production of future remakes or sequels on license of first-generation 3D consoles,” says Imbert on the deal.
DotEmu has been slowly bringing back niche, but nostalgiac retro games in the form of remasters, remakes and even official sequels. This is the team the brought back cult-favourite Windjammers, and is making a sequel for it.
They’ve also made the highly successful and really good beat-’em-up Streets Of Rage 4. They are also making a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game to follow up the SNES classics, as well the weird new Metal Slug game.
This deal will see DotEmu exploring more than just 2D pixel games to brought back for the modern era. The idea of remakes of early 3D games is exciting, and Focus Home is willing to bankroll this venture, which will see happen in the near future.
