2025 is the 25th anniversary of the launch of The Sims, and The Sims 4 is celebrating this milestone with tons of new content, both free and paid via new packs.
Part of the free content and features is the new patch now live on all platforms. The next time you boot up The Sims 4, you’ll be greeted by a less cluttered screen.
The current save and the last household you play takes center screen, and though links to purchase packs are still there it’s less upfront now.
The new update also has revised the houses of townies (pre-created characters) from the the base game worlds: Willow Creek and Oasis Springs.
The revised house designs make use of the many added new content since the base game’s launch in 2014, some houses now has pools. The before-and-after comparisons speaks for itself. The Goth family home looks more ornate, while the lavish Landgraab mansion now features a more elaborate front lawn and sleeker facade.
Similar to the redesigned households like the Calientes, these won’t replace the lots existing in a current save, but it will be default for new saves going forward.
The game update also brings in performance improvements via optimised mouse movements and less memory usage, which is nice.
The update comes with fixes across the many, many packs The Sims 4 has, which you can find here.
This is only the first part of the celebration and free updates. The next one in February will be adding new Create-A-Sim clothing (and that includes toddlers) and Build/Buy Mode items.
This is expected to arrive on February 4, alongside a limited-time event where you can unlock items inspired by the 2000s, including landline phones. Remember those?
The Sims 4 is out now on PS4, PS5, PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, EA App), Mac (Steam, Epic Games Store, Origin), Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
