The developers of industrial machinations simulator Factorio have outlined what’s in store for the game’s future. A free update, version 1.1, is currently in the works, but that would be the final release for the vanilla game.
Moving on, as detailed on their blog post, the developers will be working on big expansions. They’ve considered other options like continuous free updates, a full sequel, and smaller DLC pack, but those are just not viable for their niche little game with a dedicated audience. And they don’t want to be succumbed by the burden of too many DLCs.
As such, expect to see an expansion coming to Factorio. Though what will be included and when will it be released is still something too early for the developers to share at the moment.
It’s good to see devs be transparent on their decision-making process, and it’s an understandable move for them, similar to how they remain steadfast in not doing sales for the game.
Factorio is out now on PC (Steam).
