Ex-Volition Developers Co-Developing Clockwork Revolution

Developer team Volition is no more, but several ex-developers of that team has regrouped under the new banner of Shapeshifter Games. And they’re already working on a project.

Shapeshifter Games will be co-developing InXile Entertainment’s new game Clockwork Revolution, it has been announced. The deal came up shortly after the announcement of Volition closing its doors in August 2023, as InXile and Xbox worked together with the leadership of the now-defunct team to get them as a co-development partner.

“I was very grateful to be able to help secure this new studio and get some truly amazing developers to help make Clockwork a reality,” InXile Entertainment Studio Head Brian Fargo said.

“The talented and experienced team that joined Shapeshifter has hit the ground running,” said Shapeshifter Games Studio Head, Matt Madigan. “We’ve had a lot of support from former Volitionites, and are truly grateful to inXile and Microsoft for the opportunity to assist with the development of a great new IP.”

Clockwork Revolution, revealed last year, is a new game and IP from inXile, the first since it became an Xbox Game Studio. InXile has been making plenty of top-down CRPGs in the past, their last game was Wasteland 3.

Clockwork Revolution will be a relatively bigger game from the looks of it, with it being a first-person RPG with time-travel mechanics with a steampunk-ish aesthetic that will remind you of Bioshock Infinite in some ways.

Clockwork Revolution has no release date yet, more info of the game will be shared “in due time”.
