As EVO 2017 comes to a close with a slew of spectacular final matches, all eyes are now on the now confirmed EVO Japan. The event should be similar in format to EVO but at a different location (Tokyo, Japan) so expect to see more Japanese players participating.
There are seven main game tournaments. Street Fighter V, Tekken 7, King Of Fighters XIV and Super Smash Bros. For Wii U are in, but not Smash Melee. Nintendo’s latest fighter for the Switch, ARMS, will make its first appearance as an EVO main tournament. Rounding it off are the two anime fighters also featured at EVO this year: Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2 and BlazBlue: Central Fiction.

The lineup reflects what most Japanese players, as well as the surrounding regions, preference. Hence the absence of Melee and Injustice 2, which have a strong following in the west but not much outside of that.
For aspiring fighting game players, this is another event worth attending. EVO Japan will take place on January 26-28.
