Spreadsheets In Space just got real. The nickname is what EVE Online players jokingly refer to their sandbox MMORPG about space trades, space wars, and very real grifts and scams that happen in between them thanks to its player-driven economy.
And for years players have been making use of software like Microsoft Excel to assist in their daily activities within the game by CCP Online.
At the 2022 EVE Fanfest that happened last weekend, a particular announcement dropped: there will be official integration with Microsoft Excel.
Last year saw Microsoft adding a new JavaScript API to Excel, which allows developers to make their own custom data types. And CCP Games did just that for EVE.
With the integration, you can export data from the game straight into a spreadsheet, as well as call up info of the game’s many ships, star systems and resources as a Data Type in Excel.

This is the sort of announcement where you would expect to be heard around early April and file as “April Fools jokes that turned real heck yeah” but not for EVE Online.
Interestingly, CCP Games is positioning this integration as one of many steps the devs are making the game more accessible for casual and seasoned players.
More details on how EVE Online’s Microsoft Excel integration works will be shared later this year.
The EVE Fanfest 2022 also revealed a bunch of new announcements coming to the MMORPG, including an enhanced new player experience. This new tutorial will guide new players by enrolling in the AIR Career Program where players can pick one of four career paths: Explorer, Industrialist, Enforcer or Soldier of Fortune.
