Space flight sim Elite: Dangerous is letting you put down your boots on the ground with the upcoming Odyssey expansion. And it now has a date for an alpha test.
Alongside that, Frontier Developments also shared new gameplay footage Elite Dangerous: Odyssey. It’s a military outpost raid featuring three members of the dev team playing (complete with voice chat, so there’s your warning). Two members are down on the ground with another running recon on the spaceship, waiting to evac the others.
This is based on pre-alpha footage, so things do look a bit lacking in polish. But consider this: there was never on-foot gameplay in the original game so this is all-new systems and mechanics being added. At least the sound design of the weapons sounds distinctly sci-fi, something the developers discussed in a previous dev diary video.
Hopefully there’s enough variety of missions and locations you can do in Elite Dangerous: Odyssey. The alpha starts on March 29, and will be available for PC players who pre-order the expansion through Steam, Epic Games Store, or the Frontier Store.
Elite Dangerous: Odyssey will launch on PC this Spring (Q2). It will also be available on PS4 and Xbox One in Autumn (Q3).
