Eidos Montreal Reassures Deus Ex Is Not Dead

But it's not in development either

Eidos Montreal is now working on the soon-to-be-released Shadow Of The Tomb Raider and is also supporting Crystal Dynamics on that new Avengers project. But this does not mean that the studio’s signature game, Deus Ex, is dead.

When PCGamesN asked about the statues of the series the developers successfully revived, Eidos Montreal’s studio head David Anfossi has this to say: “Deus Ex is not dead, I confirm that.”

“Deus Ex, of course, it’s the brand of the studio. We are all attached to this franchise, but we cannot do everything, you know? So we have Shadow of the Tomb Raider, we have this co-development with Crystal [Dynamics] on The Avengers, and we have a third game in development, so it’s enough at the moment for us.”

This is not the first time the state of Deus Ex. Square Enix CEO reassured the series is on hiatus but will still be explored. The last game of the series, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, may have reviewed well but struggled commercially.

So don’t expect Adam Jensen and his raspy vocal tones to emerged anytime soon. According to another interview with Anfossi for Gamesindustry.biz, Deus Ex will not be altered to chase current trends and it won’t be coming out when single-player games are not in vogue.

“Every year there is a new trend. At the moment it’s Fortnite – which is a great game – and all the attention is around these kinds of games, Anofssi said. “But we just have to wait. I don’t want to change a Deus Ex game or experience. We want to be respectful to that.”
