We’re not just seeing a proliferation of indie-made racing games, but driving games (where you drive vehicles but not necessarily in a head-to-head competitive manner) as well.
Easy Delivery Co. is a new driving game by Sam C. and Oro Interactive.
Its premise? Be a delivery driver and send packages in a mountain town that for some reason has been affected by constant snowfall.
The press release says that the locale is “an ordinary town with odd secrets” and it has “mysterious residents”. Sounds quite like Truckful (also a still-in-development indie driving game about delivering packages).
But what Easy Delivery Co. has something different to offer is its presentation. It has the vibe of a game released 20 years ago so there’s a lot of aesthetic choices here that evoke that era.
No, not Y2K. But rather it has that low-poly jaggedly models you’d see in a PS1 game. The moody atmosphere of a snow-covered town with fog gives off Silent Hill chills. There are bouncily animated characters (they’re all cats, apparently, the people here are like in Animal Crossing). Visually, it’s a mix of all that.
And most notable is the music choice. You wouldn’t expect to hear Jungle (or some form of Drum n Bass, the trailer has a bit of intelligent/liquid DnB sound to it) in this cosy-looking, supposedly-not-creepy-at-all driving game, but it has that genre of music, as well as lo-fi beats, as unlockable radio stations.

As for the gameplay, you can expect Easy Delivery Co. be about you driving from one point to another, and use that hard-earned money to pay for the overpriced gas to fuel your kei truck. There seems to be physics on the items you transport from the back of the truck as well.
While Easy Delivery Co. looks like it’s more of a driving game, there are local split-screen race mode with up to four players, so it can be classified as a racing game.
Easy Delivery Co. has no release date yet, but it’s coming to PC (Steam). A demo of the game is now available.
