Dragon Age: The Veilguard New Gameplay Shows How Rook Mage Fights, Also Dragons

Dragon Age: The Veilguard made an appearance at the September 2024 State Of Play broadcast, showing new gameplay of the upcoming action-RPG by Bioware.

The gameplay unveiling trailer and the subsequent deep dive into the new action-based combat has shown the moveset of the protagonist Rook as a Rogue and Warrior class respectively. This time, we see a mage Rook and how they fight. Instead of dodges, they teleport away. They still roll, though.

Rook and the party is facing a boss fight, a Blighted Dragon. Yes, there will be dragons in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, just like the Dragon Age games before it.

This new gameplay footage gives another look at how the combat works, and how the ability wheel still gives you some control of your companions. A neat thing being shown here is how you can have all three party members cast a spell/do a selected ability all at the same time.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard may be the game the redeems Bioware’s reputation after the flops of Anthem and Mass Effect: Andromeda. Bioware now excels at making action gameplay (though not necessarily good at multiplayer looter shooters), but whether they can still craft good stories, characters and world in their current guise remains to be seen. But it sure is showing positive signs than their previous two efforts.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard will be out on October 31 for the PS5, PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, EA App) and Xbox Series X|S.
