Codemasters today shared that their sim rally racing game, Dirt Rally 2.0, has reached the 9 million player milestone.
Over 9 million players have gave “the Dark Souls of racing games” a try. Even taking account that it was free on PS Plus, that’s still a massive achievement, in particular for a racing games- these are niche titles these days.
Codemasters have also shared the many different statistics to mark the occasion. New Zealand is the most popular stage, with 196,236,715 stages completed across all players. The Mini Cooper S, available early on is the most popular car followed by the cover car Volkswagen Polo GTI R5.
Codemasters next game is Dirt 5, which is less serious rally and more off-road variety racing. However, Codemasters have committed to making a follow-up to Dirt Rally that continues its focus on hardcore simulation.
