At TGS 2018, Capcom debuted some new footage centering around Dante, now old but still as crazy cool as you remember. And also returning casts Lady and Trish. Also revealed was new playable character V, who apparently looks like Star Wars’ Kylo Ren, potrayed by Adam Driver.
The folks at Eurogamer sat down with game director Hideaki Itsuno and producer Matt Walker and ask the most obvious question: is Capcom aware of the uncanny similarities?
The short answer is yes.
” We’ve been making this game for a while!” Walker said. “When we saw Adam Driver, we were like ‘oh man’. We were making this before Star Wars Episode 7!”
Itsuno then added: “We were sort of surprised! When we started making the game, the new characters were the ones we started to work on – so Nico, V – we came up with those designs early on. And we went to see Star Wars and saw Kylo Ren and we were like ‘oh man, he looks just like him!’
“If you ever come to Osaka we’ll show you the designs, how we’ve made them, what order, when that was and prove there’s nothing to do with Kylo Ren!”
It’s a happy little accident that the two looks similar.
However, being a playable character, Capcom is yet to reveal how exactly will he play like. Throughout the interview Itsuno was adamant at ensuring that other playable characters Nero and Dante play differently. Such as Nero needing a loadout for his new Devil Breakers prosthetic arms and Dante having freedom to equip as many or as little weapons he can quickly switch through. V has a book and a cane rather than swords and guns the other two wield by default.
We may learn about soon enough. Devil May Cry 5 will be out on March 8th for the PS4, PC and Xbox One.
