Destiny Rising Releasing Globally This August

Destiny Rising, the mobile take on Bungie’s long-running looter-shooter RPG by NetEase Games, now has a release date.

The free-to-play title will launch this August globally on iOS and Android, now available for pre-register.

Destiny Rising is set in a new, alternate timeline of Destiny, set before the events of the live service game. It’s designed for any player to jump right into the game’s various content, famously referred as “activities.” Missions, Strikes (co-op missions), PVP and six-player PVE activities (the press release stops short from calling the six-player PVE activity “raids”) will be available, alongside various open-world areas to roam.

On top of that, new modes unique to Destiny Rising will be available.

The release date announcement shows more gameplay of this mobile game, and from a glance it looks unmistakably Destiny. The hodgepodge of sci-fi/fantasy aesthetic and the way the guns take up screen space is very faithful. But then you start seeing new weapons. You can dual-wield pistols.

Unlike in Destiny and Destiny 2, Destiny Rising has you play pre-made characters with unique abilities. Referred as the Wolf, these customisable Lightbearers are based on established Destiny characters including the likes of Ikora Rey and Iron Lord Jolder. Unique abilities and Supers are tied to the Relic the Lightbearer is equipped with. Expect to still equip Primary and Power weapons. But also expect new things freshly added for Destiny Rising including new Mythic-tier gear and a new weapon type, on top of the regular loot drops.

Destiny 2 has wrapped up its main saga after the release of The Final Shape expansion, but it’s taking its first steps on a new story arc with the recently revealed Destiny 2 Edge Of Fate expansion. Meanwhile, Bungie’s next game, the new Marathon, is indefinitely delayed.

We shall see how different and similar Destiny Rising will be to its console and PC counterpart when it releases on August 28 globally.
